Violinist Jamie Campbell was born in London in 1982. After reading music at Clare College, Cambridge he continued his studies in Vienna, London and Madrid. He holds degrees in Music and in Law. His principal teachers were Howard Davis and Günter Pichler. He is the founder and Leader of the Solstice Quartet and a founder member and Principal 2nd violin of Aurora Orchestra. As leader of the Dmitri Ensemble he has made critically acclaimed recordings for Harmonia Mundi with the conductor Graham Ross and recorded MacMillan’s ‘Seven Last Words’ for Naxos. In addition Jamie appears regularly as guest leader with the London Sinfonietta, with Aurora Orchestra, with the English Chamber Orchestra and with the St. Endellion Festival Orchestra.

His other recordings have included a disc of works by Nico Muhly for Decca with Aurora Orchestra, discs by John Metcalf and Richard Blackford with the Solstice Quartet and a large number of recordings with the ECO. Jamie has premiered works by composers including Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Alexander Goehr, Nico Muhly, Sebastian Currier, Joseph Phibbs and Giles Swayne. Chamber music partners have included Steven Isserlis, Ian Bostridge, Natalie Clein, Ashley Wass, Tom Poster and Guy Johnston. He recently lead the Leondari Ensemble in the inaugural Whittington International Chamber Music Festival, performing the complete chamber works of Brahms.

Performances in 2013 include tours to Germany and Australia with Aurora Orchestra and to Swizerland and Norway with the ECO, a premiere of a solo violin work by Sebastian Currier at the Vale of Glamorgan Festival and a return to ‘Chamber Music Cervo’ in Italy in June.
